360 GIRLS, STEPPING UP AND STEPPING OUT

Girls Incorporated to Present Unique Dance Show on July 31

ST. LOUIS……. One of the more unusual — and visually exciting — summer programs in the St. Louis region is taking place at Girls, Incorporated, where 360 young women, ages 6-18, are learning teamwork, discipline and showmanship as part of the “Girl Power Steppers.” On July 31at 7:00 p.m. at the Mark Twain Gymnasium on the campus of University of Missouri-St. Louis, they will perform their precise, choreographed routines in a public dance concert that combines athletic skills and a unique sense of rhythm.

“Strong, smart and bold, that’s what Girls Inc. strives to help each young woman become,” explained Victoria Nelson, executive director. “The step performance is an important means for helping these girls build their athletic skills, learn teamwork and discipline, and acquire the self-confidence they will need to succeed in life.”

Hundreds of girls in several different troupes will perform in matching costumes, combining to rock the house and cap off their Girls, Inc. summer experience.

“Some of these girls are as young as six or seven years old,” said Nelson. “They may start the summer with two left feet, but by the end of the program, they’re stepping out with the best of them. It’s an inspiring moment to see row after row of young women standing on stage with the confidence and motivation to perform in front of hundreds of people. If they can do this, they can meet and overcome whatever challenges they may face down the road.”

Girls, Inc.is a nonprofit organization devoted to providing fun, safe and extensive programming for at-risk girls in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. Girls are prepared to meet and overcome challenges they face while growing up and develop skills they need to be successful in life.
